The Holidays Aren’t Always Merry & Bright
The holiday season is often painted as joyful, cozy, and full of connection. But for many adults, it also brings stress, pressure, and emotional overload—from financial strain and family expectations to packed schedules and endless to‑do lists.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’ll never get everything done” or “I should be happier than I feel right now,” you’re not alone. These thoughts are common, but they don’t have to control your experience.
Why Reframing Helps
Reframing is the practice of challenging automatic negative thoughts and replacing them with more balanced, compassionate perspectives. Instead of “I’m failing at holiday traditions,” you might reframe to:
- “I’m choosing what matters most, and that’s enough.”
This shift doesn’t erase stress, but it softens its grip and opens space for self‑compassion.
Radical Acceptance: The Missing Piece
Radical acceptance means acknowledging reality as it is—without resistance or judgment. It’s not about liking the stress, but about saying:
- “I accept that the holidays are busy, and I can choose how I respond.”
When we stop fighting reality, we free up energy to respond with clarity and calm.
Free Worksheet: Holiday Stress Reset
To help you practice these skills, I’ve created a Holiday Stress Reset Worksheet. It guides you step‑by‑step to:
- Identify a holiday stressor
- Notice the automatic thought
- Reframe it with compassion
- Write a radical acceptance statement
- Choose a coping action that aligns with your values
